Why People are Going Part Time

June 18th, 2011

If you are unfortunate enough to have been one of the millions to have lost your job in this bad economy, then you realize how desperate times truly are.  Literally, millions of people have lost their livelihood and are struggling to put food on the table.  This is due to troubled times in a bad economy.

This is the reason, so many people are taking any work they can get and are agreeing to work part time.  With employment rates at all time highs, this leaves many people with no other option than to take a part time job if they can not secure full time employment.  It seems that there are many more people may be looking for part time employees rather than full time.

When you are struggling to make ends meet and are looking for work, you most likely will take whatever you can get to provide food and shelter for yourself.  The job market these days is a scary place and it most certainly can make even the most confident and educated of people feel rejected and insecure.

Yet, another reason many people are taking part time work may be to help ensure they do not get into a situation where they do not know where their next meal is coming from.  A lot of people are really afraid that they too, may be cast aside at any time by their employer and feel that they have to be proactive and help secure their financial position.

So, the reasons for people going part time are due to a bad economy and trying to survive at a time when the unemployment rate exceeds 10% in the majority of 50 states within the U.S.  Experts are proclaiming that this is the worst unemployment rate reported in over 25 years.

Good morning Helen, After reading your comment on my blog, I came to yours for a little reading. I like the content of your blog and I complement you. I created “theconcretetruth” about one year ago. I needed to blow off some steam after being fired from my job with a manufacturer. At 56 y.o., I still have not been able to find employment. I also started a website called, www.chicagolandgardentrader.com. As a former computer illiterate, I am learning as quickly as I can, but I still need to depend on some other people for help with some issues. As a former business owner, I feel it is my responsibility to help guide both consumers and contractors on the truth and ethics of the concrete repair industry. At 56 y.o., I do have an abundance of opinions! I have survived my unemployed status by keeping a positive attitude and refusing to submit to depression. My advice to anyone is to search out your own talents and resources. Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do. Use your skills to invest into yourself. Make birdhouses and sell them at craft fairs if you can. I think it’s human nature to take the easy way out and give up. We need to train our minds to go against that nature and force ourselves to be strong. There you go, another opinion! Let’s keep in touch.

And I am also thanking for a nice comment @ my blog.

For the post itself. As it was described, now people are not very much choosing to go for a part time – they are forced to. I think from on par it if horrible (pessimists), and from other- good. We have more time to develop ourselves, start and generate own ideas. Unfortunately, a lot of people are searching for problems, rather possibilities.
